By Suzanne Russo, CEO, Pecan Street

You know those friends you haven’t seen in a while…the ones that you KNOW have been busy trying to change the world, but haven’t bothered blogging about it?

That’s us. We HAVE been busy at Pecan Street, and we’ve gotten a lot of attention from others about our work, like PBS News Hour, Time Magazine and many others. All of these stories have done a great job of explaining who we are and elevating our profile.

But we’ve been bad about talking about the ins-and-outs of our research. And there’s a lot to talk about. Like how our research database of real-world electricity use and generation is now the largest in the world. And how it’s available for free to university researchers around the world who have used it to produce more than 100 peer-reviewed papers. And how we used what we learned from setting up our home energy research network to invent a way to convert old-fashioned water meters to internet-connected smart meters that can detect and identify leaks as small as a leaky toilet flapper.

See? We’ve been busy. And we’re going to use this space to talk about it. You’ll hear from several of our staff and even from a guest writer from time to time.

So, stay tuned, and happy reading.
