Pecan Street Inc. seeks a motivated individual passionate about the environment and social justice to join our award-winning team as Chief of Staff. The selected candidate will work closely with Pecan Street’s CEO and will provide leadership on a range of innovative programs and partnerships as well as organizational administration.

The selected candidate will work closely with the CEO and program leads to implement programs that accelerate innovation for climate and conservation solutions, utilizing Pecan Street’s unique data, technical and community resources. It is anticipated that the Chief of Staff’s time will be allocated as follows:

  • 50% time is expected to be spent on staff and program management, including:
    • Coordinate staff and organizational resources to complete deliverables on time and within budget.
    • Coordinate with technical and communications staff to manage development and output of reports that share lessons learned, best practices and policy recommendations derived from R&D projects.
    • Work with program leads to maintain and update Asana-based project management tracking system.
    • Coordinate with program leads and CFO to ensure resource availability is understood by program leads and to track resources across a project’s timeline.
    • Support positive team dynamics, communications and a satisfying, supportive and inclusive work environment for all team members.
  • 50% time will be spent on resource development and grants administration, including:
    • Provide grant writing support to the CEO and CTO for federal, foundation and corporate research proposals.
    • Support the CFO in development of resource allocations plans for proposals
    • For awarded projects, coordinate with the CFO to lead grants, administration, overseeing project kick-off, project budget tracking procedures, work plans, and implementation plans.
    • Support the program leads and CFO in producing grant reports.
    • Serve as a lead on partnerships and relationship development.


Experience and Skills

Pecan Street seeks a candidate with:

  • Bachelor’s degree in management, business administration, engineering, or a relevant domain field
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in a relevant field, with at least 5 years of program or personnel management experience
  • Experience working on innovation, sustainability, energy or environmental justice issues
  • Exceptional writing and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience in grant writing and/or grants administration a plus, or demonstratable strength in persuasive writing
  • Experience in partnership development
