PV Magazine Features Pecan Street’s Race & Energy Webinar
‘The U.S. transition to clean energy must be as much about equity as it is about electrons’
Earlier this month, Pecan Street’s CEO Suzanne Russo led a panel discussion about race in the energy sector, specifically, about how we should look at race and income as separate indicators for energy programs. PV Magazine picked up the story in their recent article Racial equity in clean energy should be a key differentiator for the industry. To quote the article, “When only 8% of the solar workforce is African American, framing the problem in terms of access issues for low-income communities sidesteps the inextricable link between race and energy”. This was the second webinar in Pecan Street’s Race & Energy webinar series, and featured Diana Hernández, PhD, Assistant Professor of Sociomedical Sciences, Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University; John Hall, Director, Regulatory & Legislative Affairs, Environmental Defense Fund; Dana Harmon, Executive Director, Texas Energy Poverty Research Institute; and Fisayo Fadelu, General Counsel and CFO, Pecan Street. The first webinar in the series was held in June and focused on how race impacts energy affordability, equality of opportunity to participate in emerging clean energy programs and markets, and models for how to design equitable energy programs.
